About Tom Perrin Ph.D.

Tom combines a high-level coaching, psychology and consulting background to support clients in reaching individual, team and organizational goals in business, sport, and personal settings. With a PhD in sport psychology from the University of Virginia and an MEd and BA from the University of Vermont, Tom’s education, experience and leadership skills have allowed him to work successfully with a broad range of organizations in manufacturing, health care, financial services, higher education and construction.

The first half of Tom’s career was spent in the realm of highly competitive intercollegiate, professional and international sport. A university athlete, coach and NBA advance scout, Tom was part of the coaching staff that led the University of Virginia’s basketball team to 297 wins over 15 years, resulting in many post-season tournament appearances. As an advance scout for the Indiana Pacers, he worked 2 years under the leadership of Rick Carlisle and Larry Bird.

In 2000, Tom added business consulting to his coaching repertoire in recognition of the similarities between the development of highly performing sports and business teams. Beginning as a Senior Consultant with Diversified Business Consultants, Tom focused on assessment, coaching, team building / development, staffing and training. 

Perrin & Associates, Inc. was founded in 2005. Established to provide the support needed to assess and identify multidimensional solutions in business and sport, it helps clients develop the skills needed for long-term, independent success. In business, Tom has worked with CEOs, Presidents and business owners in highly competitive environments across multiple industries. In sport, he has provided sport psychology services to clients including the United States Men’s Soccer Team, U.S. World Cup Team, and the NBA’s Detroit Pistons.

Over the past 15 years, Tom has performed over 10,000 assessments used to drive individual and team performance by optimizing communication and understanding in highly competitive, fast moving, stressful business and sport environments.  Tom's work has facilitated successful outcomes in a diverse array of challenging fields from Healthcare and Manufacturing to ACC Basketball and International Soccer.

When not working, Tom enjoys spending time with Sheryl, his wife of 38 years and his two daughters, Riley and Emily. Highly competitive, Tom played basketball at the University of Vermont and has completed more than a dozen long-distance marathons of up to 50 miles.
